In 2004 the well known twins, David and Stephen Flynn, opened this cheerfully ethical vegetable shopin Greystones, and a smoothie bar and vegetarian café soon followed. If that all sounds a lot for a vegetable shop, it is, but the food is simple and tasty.
The menu changes every day and, from their extensive recipe bank, they offer two soups and main courses along with ten salads. Try a delicious salad of sprouted mung bean, watercress, radicchio in a pumpkin seed & parsley dressing, for example: very good.
They're mad into sprouting seeds at The Happy Pear and Stephen and David' s younger brother, Darragh Flynn, is the Head Grower on their Living Foods sprout farm nearby in Newcastle, Co. Wicklow. Wheatgrass, known for its health-promoting qualities, quickly became the star of the show.
They also have a roastery and now offer a range of services including catering, Happy Heart cookery courses, events and demos - and the breads and bakery, dips, pestos, hummus, energyy bars and fermented products made at their production facilitiy at Kilcoole are widely distributed.
A telling detail about the Flynn brothers is that they run their van on local rapeseed oil. Now that is walking the walk.
