Luna

Provenance is taken seriously here (suppliers are proudly credited) and everything is made from scratch in-house - the quality is obvious on the plate and on the palate.
Seats 45 (+12 outdoors) Open Tue-Sun. Tue-Sat from 4pm, Sun from 3pm. A la carte. Vegan menu.[Pizza also available to go, all €10.] Closed first 3 wks Jan. MasterCard, Visa. abbreviations

Tucked away behind the homely facade of a mustard yellow cottage in the unspoilt village of Dromahair, Luna is well worth seeking out.

In 2017 this small restaurant was taken over by respected restaurateurs, Grainne Sheridan and Joe Grogan (well known in the region, notably for their time running an excellent food operation in Hargadons of Sligo), and it is introducing plenty of new visitors to this attractive village.

The traditional single-storey house makes great little restaurant - a high ceilinged room, with an open kitchen and interesting artwork, it works well.

Joe - who is a local, with the family farm nearby - is a natural host, warmly welcoming guests to this quiet spot, while Grainne does what she has always done so well in the kitchen, sourcing the best local and other (mainly) Irish ingredients and transforming them into unfussy and deliciously flavourful dishes.

Grainne's cooking takes inspiration from many sources and has wide appeal, with starters including everything from steamed Donegal mussels to beef koftas or an Irish charcuterie plate (from Fingal Ferguson), and diverse mains ranging from traditional steaks and lamb shanks to poultry such as duck confit and pasta dishes.

Pizza (a speciality under the previous ownership) gets a special listing and includes some tempting toppings such as Guinness & leek sausage (from Loughnanes in Galway) or pear and blue cheese, and there is even a separate vegan menu so there really is something for everyone.

Desserts also offer a careful balance of the popular (Grainne's salted caramel brownies), the seasonal (apple & local blackcurrant tart, perhaps) and the classic (that rare delight, a proper sherry trifle) and there's also an Irish cheeseboard.

Provenance is taken seriously here (suppliers are proudly credited) and everything is made from scratch in-house - the quality is obvious on the plate and on the palate.

Service is lovely - very friendly and efficient - and, whatever you choose, what you may expect here is an excellent meal in a unique little place and we heartily recommend it.
