This colourful and funky little cafe/bar on Howth's west pier has a couple of tables outside and, inside, it’s small, simple and cosy with a seating bar along the wide window overlooking the harbour, where diners can sit on high stools watch the world go by.
Like its near neighbour The Oar House, it’s connected with the nearby fish shop Dorans on the Pier, who sell both local Irish and imported fish and seafood.
A cheerful chalkboard at the door lists the day’s offering of popular seafood dishes, such as crab claws, calamari, Dublin Bay prawns and paella. There may also be less obvious choices, like Carlingford oysters and whitebait – plus a few non-fish choices too.
Freshness and simplicity are key and the small tapas-style dishes – which are served in sequence rather than courses - are reasonably priced.
Staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and wines offered are well chosen to suit the food.
All round, a nice, casual complement to Howth’s already wide-ranging seafood offering, and a pleasant spot to spend a sunny evening.
