Located outside of the small village of Duleek and set amidst the lush Meath countryside, Sage & Stone is a food hall, kitchen shop and café all rolled into one.
The small food hall area stocks a limited but carefully selected range of Irish artisan products, such as Derrycamma Rapeseed Oil, Big Red Kitchen preserves, Dunany Flour and teas from Lily’s Tea Shop, while the shop carries a good range of baking equipment and other cooking and kitchen accessories.
The café menu is small but very good, offering breakfast, lunch, desserts and tea and coffee. The food is simple and unfussy, which lets the good-quality ingredients stand out. Eggs are local and free range and lend the quiche such a vibrant yellow colour you’d know it just has to be homemade.
Baking and homemade desserts are especially good and have a homey, country feel to them – think fruit scones, carrot cake and rhubarb tart with lashings of cream.
There are also picnic tables and outdoor seating in good weather and a small play area for children to enjoy the pretty countryside.
