Springfort Hall Hotel

A place to which many guests want to return, thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff
Baltydaniel Bar and Lime Tree Restaurant: Food served 12.30-9.30 daily; L 12.30-5 (3 course L €29.95); early D 5-7 daily, €32.50; set D €38. Sun L €29.95. House wines, €18.50, by the glass €5.80. abbreviations

Surrounded by beautifully maintained lawns and mature trees, an 18th century manor house is now the heart of Springfort Hall. The proud boast of “Elegance in the country since 1169” may be stretching the imagination a little, but this friendly hotel can certainly trace its history back some 850 years.

It’s named after a spring that rises in a local fort, but the property was originally known as Baltydaniel – a name which lives on in the bar today. It has seen a succession of owners since its beginnings in the 12th century, most recently the Walsh family who bought Springfort Hall in 1982 and have since transformed it into a popular hotel, wedding venue.

Public rooms are impressive, with a wood-burning fire in the main drawing room while the Baltydaniel Bar offers relaxation in comfortable armchairs and an outdoor patio area overlooking the wooded gardens and pleasant walks. Food served here in the bar includes the main lunch and early dinner menus offered in the restaurant.

The spacious and comfortable en-suite bedrooms are individually decorated in a traditional country house style and many have garden views. All are well equipped (direct dial telephone, multichannel television, hair dryer, iron and ironing board etc), while superior rooms have some extras.

But, while there’s a welcome emphasis on comfort, it’s the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff that make this a place to which many guests want to return.

Conference/banqueting 360 (+ various meeting rooms). Rooms 49. Golf and fishing (salmon & trout) nearby.

Lime Tree Restaurant

With tall windows giving views over the garden, this elegant and well appointed room provides the right setting for fine food.

A good breakfast is served here, including a buffet table and choices such as fresh fruit, porridge and French toast with maple syrup for those who don’t feel like the full Irish.

All round, a satisfying place to eat and stay.
