Dunlavin is situated about 5km west of the main N81 and is very close to the Kildare county border. It is a peaceful village characterized by its unusually wide streets forming an expansive T-junction. Its crowning glory is the Courthouse in the Centre of the village. Built in the ancient Doric style of Grecian architecture, it is one of the three such buildings in Ireland.
