Wicklow Mountains National Park covers much of upland Wicklow and contains a variety of attractions and recreational activities that are popular with city dwellers, history enthusiasts and tourists alike.

It is spread over an area of nearly 20,000 hectares (50k+ acres) and provides protection for landscapes and wildlife. Important habitats include native woodland, such as the oakwoods at Glendalough, and large areas of blanket bog including the Lugnaquila and Liffey Head Bog complexes.

Chief among the historic sites is Glendalough, which features a collection of Early Medieval monastic structures associated with St Kevin, a hermit priest.

Other areas of interest in Glendalough include the Education Centre in Bolger's Cottage on the Miners' Road by the Upper Lake which focuses on nature awareness, conservation, and ecology. It hosts a range of courses and tours for school children, students and other groups.

There is also remnants of mining villages and an Information Office for the National Park, also in Glendalough (upper lake).

Park open year round. Information Office open seasonally: May-September, Daily, 10am-5.30pm; October, weekends only, 10am-5.30pm; February-April, weekends only, 10am-5pm.
