Oughterard, Co. Galway

Oughterard (Irish: Uachtar Ard) is a delightful village on the banks of the Owenriff River close to the south shore of Lough Corrib 26km (16 miles) northwest of Galway City. Oughterard is the chief angling centre on the lough. There is a beautiful drive taking you down to the Lough and the wooded Hill of Doon. There are breath taking views here and at other points around the Lough.

3 km outside the town stand the ruins of Aughnanure Castle, a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house. Despite being a small town, Oughterard is quite famous for its thriving pub culture.
