Gina Murphy's welcoming wine bar and restaurant is easily recognised by its bright turquoise facade. Its' location very close to St Stephen's Green has attracted a lot of customers and they've also built up a clientele of regulars who enjoy the friendly atmosphere and informality.
The interior of this Dublin restaurants quite atmospheric, with rich wallpaper, plenty of mirrors and wine bottles on display; a downstairs area is similar in style and has additional tables, with less formal seating towards the front.
Hugo's is popular with style-conscious Dubliners and can be a busy place in the evenings, making for a convivial atmosphere - and friendly staff contribute to this ambience.
An extensive wine list offers a wide choice from €20 to €300; more choice by the glass would be welcome, although those offered are a good representation of the range available.
Although the main appeal of Hugo's is as a wine bar, there's a growing emphasis on food, all of which is made fresh daily (there are no freezers on the premises).
Varied menus offer plenty of small/starter dishes for nibbling with a glass of wine, and also some unusual French dishes such as frogs legs, along with longstanding favourites including home-made patés, terrines and breads, steaks and fresh fish and homemade desserts.
Although service can sometimes be a little disorganised, friendly staff ensure a good atmosphere.
