Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa
This is a very romantic location for weddings and especially attractive off-season when it is quieter, as the two ‘Blue Flag’ beaches at Inchydoney bring crowds to the area in summer - and, at other times of year, the Thalassatherapy spa for which the hotel is famous offers a high pamper quotient in contrast to its dramatic seaside setting.
Once inside, this wedding venues impressive artworks lend gravitas to a spacious foyer, setting a tone of exclusivity and luxury from the outset - and other public areas include a large, comfortably furnished first-floor residents’ lounge and library, with a piano and extensive sea views, and a soothing atmosphere.
For the marriage ceremony there are churches nearby in Clonakilty, and wedding blessings are also possible at the hotel, where there is an in-house wedding co-ordinator available to ensure no detail is overlooked. Depending on numbers, the reception can be held in the bright and elegant Gulfstream Restaurant (max 90) on the first floor which has fine sea views, while larger weddings are hosted in a function room - in either case, candles are provided on tables but it is the bride and groom’s responsibility to decorate the room.
Head chef, Adam Medcalf, offers consistently good cooking in a broadly Mediterranean style, and willingly caters for any other special dietary requirements.
Most of the generously sized bedrooms have sea views and all are furnished and decorated in an uncluttered contemporary style; guests are likely to want to stay in the area for a day or two, but this very popular hotel can only offer a discount for the night of the wedding.
