Rock of Cashel

A spectacular group of Medieval buildings

The Rock of Cashel is an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale and was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion.

In 1101, the King of Munster, Muirchertach Ua Briain, donated his fortress on the Rock to the Church. Now it comprises a spectacular group of Medieval buildings including the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral.

There is an audio-visual show and exhibitions.

Open Daily September-mid October, 9am-5.30pm; mid October-mid March 9am-4.30pm; mid March-June 9am-5.30pm; June-September 9am-7pm. Closed 24-26 December.
