Parkes Castle

A restored plantation castle of the early 17th century

Rising three storeys tall, in a picturesque setting on the banks of Lough Gill Parkes Castle is a restored plantation castle of the early 17th century. It was once the home of Robert Parke and his family.

The Courtyard grounds contain evidence of an earlier 16th century Tower House structure once owned by Brian O'Rourke. Excavations in 1972-73 revealed the base of the original O'Rourke tower house beneath the courtyard cobbles, and this is now exposed to view.

The Castle has been restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmanship.

Open 5th April-26th Sept, Daily 10am-6pm. Last admission 45 minutes before closing

Access to park is free. Visitor Centre Adults €3; Child/Student €1; OAP/Group €2; Family €8.
